Requesting information and comments
As a government entity, we must provide certain information to the public through the Information Publication Scheme (IPS), Freedom of Information (FOI) and the Government’s open data policy.
Before asking for information, see if it’s publicly available. If not, you can request information from the Registrar.
Information about corporations
Some information about corporations is available online and easy to access.
Register of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations
Search the register to find a corporation’s:
- registered name
- Indigenous corporation number (ICN) – this doesn’t relate to ABN, CAN, ARBN or ARSN numbers
- date of registration
- registration status
- name and address of the contact person or secretary if available – or liquidator if the corporation is in liquidation or administrator if it is under special administration
- key public documents held by ORIC, including the corporation's rule book.
Open data
We publish:
- data about corporations on data.gov.au
- reports about complaints involving corporations
- a list of corporations with overdue reports.
News and announcements
We regularly publish news and announcements, including media releases, on our website.
You can also subscribe to our monthly News for corporations email for:
- stories about corporations and their work
- information about upcoming training
- information about changes that may affect your corporation.
Information ORIC cannot provide
We cannot give out:
- personal details of individual members or officers of a corporation unless it is legally required
- internal documents or communications of a corporation that are not required to be publicly available under the CATSI Act
- information that is protected by privacy laws or other legal restrictions
- details about ongoing investigations or enforcement actions that are not yet public.
Some information is commercially sensitive, such as:
- financial details or commercial arrangements that are not part of publicly lodged documents
- proprietary business information or trade secrets.
