Research and analysis

ORIC contributes to the research and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander corporations in a variety of ways.

Individual corporation reports providing detailed information are available on the Register of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, using the find a corporation search.

ORIC also releases a limited dataset to the public, which includes each corporation's:

• registration status and status date
• location
• industries they operate in
• how many members they have
• how many directors and (to help determine gender balance) their title (Mr, Mrs, Ms etc)
• general financial information (income, assets and employees) for the last 3 years, which is used to determine their size.

Openly publishing data enables autonomous use for others to conduct research, with the goal of embarking on collaborative research and generating new insights into the sector.

We provide an interactive data visualisation of registered native title bodies corporate. This visualisation draws data from the corporations register and is updated each night.

We also provide a list of corporations with overdue reports to aid understanding of compliance with corporation reporting obligations.

We contribute data from the corporations register to support the Indigenous Economic Power Project, a research collaboration to compile a national longitudinal database of Indigenous businesses and their entrepreneurial activities. This includes research projects such as the Indigenous Business and Corporation Snapshot Study by the Dilin Duwa Centre for Indigenous Business Leadership. We therefore no longer produce the top 500 report.
