Australian Business Number

Once your corporation is registered and has been given an Indigenous Corporation Number (ICN), it can apply for an Australian Business Number (ABN).

An ABN is a unique 11-digit number that identifies your corporation to the government and community.

There are rules about which organisations can apply for an ABN. Find out more and how to apply at abr.gov.au.

Become a charity

If your corporation has a charitable purpose, you may be able to apply for charity registration with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).

Find out more about charitable purposes and how to apply at acnc.gov.au.

You will need to have certain rules in your rule book if you plan to register as a charity.

Other business

What other registrations, licences and permits a corporation might need (or choose to apply for) will depend on the corporation’s purpose and objectives.

There are tools to help you find and apply for them at business.gov.au.

Supply Nation

Corporations that sell goods and services can register with Supply Nation and be listed on a national directory of Indigenous businesses – Indigenous Business Direct.

Find out more about eligibility and the application process at supplynation.org.au
