Tricia Stroud appointed Registrar of ORIC
Minister for Indigenous Australians, the Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, is proud to announce Ms Tricia Stroud as the next Registrar of Indigenous Corporations.
The Registrar of Indigenous Corporations is an independent statutory office that administers the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) and regulates organisations incorporated under the Act.
“Tricia Stroud, a Kungarakan and Waramungu woman, will bring a wealth of experience in supporting the economic advancement and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” Minister Wyatt said.
“As the Chief Operating Officer at the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), as with her previous roles, she has a demonstrated track record in building positive partnerships between Indigenous Australians and Government.
“Ms Stroud is an outstanding leader, and has strong understanding of governance, regulatory compliance and public sector frameworks, making her the prime candidate to support and oversight the almost 3,500 corporations incorporated under the CATSI Act.
“As a Director at Karalumba Qld, Tricia also demonstrated her passion for driving the economic advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and making sure they have the skills they need to thrive in business.
“In her five year term, Ms Stroud will also help train directors in best-practice governance and support Indigenous organisations to comply with their legal obligations and work in the best interests of their members.
“Her appointment continues this Government’s commitment to supporting eminently qualified Indigenous women into senior leadership positions.
“I’d like to thank Mr Gerrit Wanganeen for acting as Registrar since December.”
Note to media:
The title of the position in the CATSI Act is currently Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, however, has gone by the title Registrar of Indigenous Corporations since 2008.
