Director ID - Proof of identity reference

Don't have enough identity documents to apply for director ID?

If you don't have enough identity documents and it's not reasonably possible for you to get them, you'll need to get a referee to fill in a form declaring they know you.

Attach your completed referee form to your paper application form and send them to the ABRS for processing.

Who can be a referee

A referee is someone who knows you. Some examples are:

  • community health care provider
  • community elder
  • teacher
  • nurse
  • pharmacist
  • doctor
  • post office worker
  • bank worker
  • a member of an Indigenous peak body.

Who can't be a referee

Someone who has an actual or perceived personal or financial conflict of interest can't be a referee. Some examples include:

  • your immediate family such as mother, father, brother or sister
  • someone from your corporation.
