Special administrator appointed to NT Aboriginal corporation

Yesterday the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations, Mr Anthony Beven, placed the Bula’bula Arts Aboriginal Corporation under special administration.

A majority of the corporation’s directors requested that the Registrar make the appointment to help them work through a difficult trading period.

The corporation operates an arts centre in the remote community of Ramingining in Arnhem Land and provides an important link to the retail world for artists in the community and surrounding areas. The corporation was established in 1989.

‘We hope that by placing the corporation under special administration the corporation will be able to continue its operations without interruption,’ Mr Beven said.

‘Bula’bula Arts has a very good reputation and works by its artists are held in many national and international collections.’

The corporation is a member of the Association of Northern, Kimberley and Arnhem Aboriginal Artists (ANKAAA). ANKAAA is working closely with Bula’bula and supported the request to help the corporation strengthen its business operations.

During his appointment the special administrator will oversee a restructure of the corporation’s internal management practices and the recruitment of a new manager.

Mr Glen Walker of Walker Reid has been appointed as the special administrator. He can be contacted on (07) 5494 3744 or 0408 739 404.
