Liquidators appointed to Aboriginal corporation in Mt Isa

The Registrar of Indigenous Corporations, Anthony Beven, has noted that on 4 January 2010 the Supreme Court of Queensland ordered that the Mitakoodi Juhnjlar Aboriginal Corporation be wound up.

The court has appointed Mr Gerry Mier and Mr Tony Jonsson from the Cairns based firm of KPMG as liquidators of the corporation.

In July 2009 five of the six directors of the Mt Isa based corporation wrote to the Registrar asking for help to gain access to all records and assets of the corporation held by former directors. The Registrar appointed a special administrator, Mr Peter McQuoid, in August 2009.

‘The records revealed that the corporation was insolvent’ Mr Beven said.

The corporation’s members agreed at a general meeting in October 2009 with the special administrator to apply to wind up the corporation.

‘The members could not see a future for the corporation’ Mr Beven said. ‘The liquidators will wind up the corporation and investigate the reasons for its failure.’

The liquidators can be contacted on 07 4046 8888.
