Special administration: Wallhallow Aboriginal Corporation

17 October 2022

The Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Ms Tricia Stroud has today placed the Walhallow Aboriginal Corporation under special administration.

In July 2022 an examination of the corporation’s books was conducted under section 453-1 of the CATSI Act. The examination identified serious concerns with respect to the standard of corporate governance and financial management of the corporation.

Following a show cause notice procedure (as per section 487-10 of the CATSI Act), the Registrar determined that there were sufficient grounds under section 487-5 of the CATSI Act to place the corporation under special administration. Special administration will provide intensive regulatory assistance which will support Walhallow Aboriginal Corporation to address its financial and governance issues.

Mr Jack James and Mrs Paula Smith from Rodgers Reidy have been appointed as the joint and several special administrators until 21 April 2023.

The appointment means the board have been vacated and the special administrators will conduct the affairs of the corporation, including its primary health care and allied health services in Walhallow, Quirindi, Coledale (Tamworth) and Werris Creek. Services will continue to be delivered during their appointment, with the aim of the special administration being to return a stronger corporation to member control.
