For the third time, the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations, Selwyn Button, has extended the special administration of Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC (ATLA). On Friday 18 December the end date was set to 16 April 2021.
ATLA is the prescribed body for managing the Adnyamathanha people’s rights and interests in 41,000 square kilometres of land in and around the Flinders Ranges. It has a complex set of business interests and relationships. Along with the corporation’s poor record keeping, that complexity has drawn out the process of the special administration.
‘The special administrators have made significant progress. They have shortlisted prospective directors for the boards of ATLA’s companies; reviewed all the constitutions of existing entities; and adopted constitutions for new entities. They have also put considerable effort into ensuring that each company adopts best practices,’ said Mr Button. ‘I expect this to be the final extension, and I’m confident that Adnyamathanha people will be in a much better position at the end of it.’
ATLA’s annual general meeting will be held in the new year. Soon after that, the special administrators will appoint a new board and hand back control to the corporation’s 850 members.
Mr Bevan Mailman and Mr Brian Bero from Jaramer Legal will continue as the special administrators.
