Waanyi Native Title Aboriginal Corporation (Waanyi NTAC) is a Traditional Owner organisation
representing the Waanyi people over an area of 17,000 square kilometres north of Mt Isa, in north west
Queensland. This country includes the Bidunggu Land Trust area, a number of pastoral properties and
reserves, Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park, the town of Doomadgee and the Century Mine site.

On 15 April 2024, ORIC placed Waanyi NTAC under special administration to initiate and ensure corporate reform. That reform will include a new governance framework and the appointment of a new board of directors.

Job description/overview

Waanyi NTAC initially seeks to appoint part-time Corporation Advisory Group (CAG) members for the period under special administration. On the completion of the special administration, the Advisory Group will be invited to form the new board as non-executive directors to strengthen the leadership, governance, and development of the organisation. 

Advisory Group appointments will be made from May 2024 and the board will be appointed at the end of the special administration in October 2024.

Expressions of interest are invited from experienced individuals motivated to contribute as a Specialist Independent Director to provide leadership, build governance capacity, improve strategy, and deliver commercial oversight of Waanyi NTAC in its important role in representing care for country, community, culture and heritage of Waanyi people.

Selection criteria

  • Prior board experience
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of the role of the board, and the executive, in the strategic and commercial oversight of the organisation
  • Experience and/or interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander matters and community services highly regarded
  • Professional background in finance, legal, business or a discipline relevant to the corporation

Selection process

  • Submission of cover letter and resume outlining suitability for the position and alignment to the criteria
  • Long list suitable applicants for interview, based on merit assessment of alignment with selection criteria
  • Develop a short list of applicants from submission and interview, based on merit assessment against selection criteria and interview response
  • Review by Special Administrator and Corporation Advisory Group
  • Site visit and personal introduction to Corporation Advisory Group for final selection
