Wirrawandi Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (WAC) was registered in 2018 to hold and manage the native title rights and interests for the Mardudhunera and Yaburara people. It is an Aboriginal-owned and governed corporation located in Karratha in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. 

The Corporation occupies a significant role in managing the Wirrawandi’s lands of interest, and will work to progress, advance and strengthen the Mardudhunera and Yaburara people's culture, language, heritage and society in the region.

This is a permanent appointment (subject to funding). A suitable package will be negotiated for the successful applicant. This is not considered to be a fly in, fly out position.

 

Job description/overview

This is a newly created CEO position. Reporting to the board, you will ensure that the necessary infrastructure, processes, systems and policies are in place to ensure that the organisation thrives. Your core duties will include:

 • Providing strategic direction, leadership and management, and managing the day-to-day operations of all areas of the organisation.

• Ensuring compliance with the range of native title, statutory, legal, financial and contractual obligations;  and leading business development activities of the commercial operations of WAC; 

• Overseeing the performance of all staff and uphold standards of excellence and engaging with members and key stakeholders to ensure that culture and heritage is preserved, protected, and shared in the community. 

• Ensuring that the culture and heritage is maintained, recorded, protected and shared in the community, and is integral in the best practice systems of the corporation; and empower the board of directors to strategically position itself as the leader in social and commercial development, best practice governance and economic development opportunities. 

About You: The Board of WAC is looking for a CEO who has prior experience at executive leadership as well as possessing the core skills required to ensure success. These in particular will be: 

• Leadership, management and governance experience ideally suited within an Aboriginal Corporation; 

• Relevant tertiary qualifications, plus you will also bring a very good understanding of working with indigenous communities or in a cross-cultural context; 

• Sound governance experience, and financial literacy and commercial acumen;

• An empowering and supportive leadership style; including community and stakeholder engagement;

• High level communication skills and ability to build highly respectful relationships; and an outcomes focused approach.
