Bawinanga special administration further extended

The Registrar of Indigenous Corporations, Anthony Beven, is extending the special administration of the Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation for the second time. The Registrar initially placed the corporation under special administration on 31 October 2012 for six months. On 1 May 2013 the Registrar extended the period for a further month (to the end of June 2013).

This second extension will run until 31 August 2013.

Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation is an old and well-established organisation based in Maningrida in the Northern Territory. For many years it has delivered a range of community and essential services to people living in Maningrida and the nearby homelands. Under the Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) program it has also provided a work program for approximately 500 participants.

To date the special administration has assisted the corporation to take stock of its financial position, restructure its operations and to make a successful bid for the Remote Jobs and Communities Program (RJCP). This new program, which replaces the CDEP program, officially starts today (1 July 2013).

‘While the special administrators have made progress I have decided they need more time to work with staff on the implementation of RJCP and the phasing out of CDEP,’ said Mr Beven. ‘This further extension will also allow time to finalise the appointment of a new CEO and finalise arrangements for payment of the corporation’s outstanding creditors.’
